Most firms spends many thousands of dollars on the design of their website but many overlook some of these common sense tips which are nearly certain to improve your optimization efforts.
- Deliver your Value Proposition in a very direct, easy to grasp manner. If your value proposition is more complex, present it as no more than four bullet points.
- Keep clutter out of your landing pages. Place a high value on “white space”. White space makes it easier to focus the user’s attention on your key points and “calls to action”. It makes it easier to scan your site and find what they came for.
- Make a great first impression. Design power headlines and be sure they are the first thing your visitor sees. Show your target readers that they have come to the right place. Make it clear that your site answers their problems.
- Package your “call to action” with a strong, persuasive message. Some experts believe your call to action should be immediately beneath a very strong, confidence building message. And, of course, your call to action should be “above the fold”.
- Leveraging trust, relevancy and security deliver messages that will help you increase conversions. Testimonials and trust symbols seem to help.
- Action buttons must be easy for your visitor to find. Remember, nearly no visitor will read your copy. They will quickly scan your landing page to make a determination about the relevancy and trustworthiness of your site. Use large, vividly colored, well labeled buttons.
- Consider softening your Call to Action message. “Test drive our program” may improve conversions over the more harsh “Buy”. But the message must remain clear and very easy to understand.
Never forget to test, test, test! Different offers, graphics, images, calls to action, copy, etc will elicit vastly different responses and conversion rates.
